Jeremy Hunt is the leader both our Party and our Country need

Many thought that no matter who was against him, a Boris victory would be inevitable in this race. But they were wrong, and the early stages of the leadership race have clearly proved that.
Whilst the Boris campaign has faced hurdles on a daily basis, Jeremy Hunt's popularity has been sharply on the rise, as the party membership, as well as the general public, realise he is the leader we need right now. And here’s why:

Firstly, we come to the biggest issue of our time - Brexit. Now you would be right to note that both Boris and Hunt are offering very similar things, an attempt for renegotiation so that the deal, or a version of it, can get through parliament. And in the event that this is not possible - no deal. So when it comes to Brexit, with the candidates proposing similar plans, the question has to be who is the best person to lead us in the negotiations to come? And that person is clearly Jeremy Hunt. The coming negotiations, not just with the central EU, but with leaders of the member states, is one that has to be built on trust. The EU have to believe we know what we're doing, and have to believe our assurances. And it is very clear that Mr. Hunt commands much more respect than Mr. Johnson amongst world leaders, who view Jeremy as a very capable diplomat, and they would be much more likely to trust us and take steps that (in their opinion) would be a risk, if he was the one representing us at the negotiating table. Not only this, but when the negotiations are over, and (whatever the outcome of them) things come back to Parliament, the same is true. It is Jeremy, not Boris, who stands the best chance of persuading Parliament to get Brexit done. The reality is, rightly or wrongly, Boris is not trusted amongst opposition parties, and Mr. Hunt is the one who can negotiate with MPs to get us out at last.

Jeremy Hunt is the candidate most fit to be our next PM

It is also true that amongst the Conservative parliamentary party, there is much discontent with Mr. Johnson (I'm not saying this is right or wrong, I’m just stating this as a fact). Therefore I believe, as many have suggested, there could very well be a successful no-confidence vote against a Johnson-government, especially if he blindly walks us towards no-deal. This would lead to a General Election, which we would inevitably loose, and would lead to an anti-Britain, anti-NATO, anti-Semitic, anti-Armed Forces, anti-trident, anti-monarchy Marxist being made PM, who would wreck our economy, wreck our national security, and wreck our international reputation. The risk of this is real, but under Jeremy Hunt, who has made clear no deal is ONLY a last resort, and who does not hold the same unpopularity amongst the remain wing of the parliamentary party, stands little to no chance of loosing a confidence vote, thus keeping the dark forces of Corbyn’s Labour out of government.

Another unfortunate fact is the real risk of Scottish Independence and the break up of the Union that could come with a Johnson premiership. Mr Johnson’s obliviousness to the damaging risks of no-deal, and together with his unpopularity amongst Scots, makes Independence much more likely under his leadership. Of course no-deal has to stay on the table, but it has to be a last resort as Jeremy Hunt believes. And the Boris camp’s unrealistic promises about a no deal Brexit and the simple truths about Parliamentary arithmetic, mean a Marxist leader of a Scotland-less Britain is a real possibility if he were to win. But Jeremy Hunt is clear that if a deal can be achieved, it should be.

Jeremy and Lucia Hunt would make great inhabitants of Number 10 Downing Street

But moving away from the Brexit crisis, Jeremy Hunt is what our economy and our society needs. Education is one issue in which I think we’ve failed in recent years, and Jeremy Hunt can clearly see that we need a much bigger focus on it. We are the party of opportunity, and the power of education to create equal opportunity across society cannot be understated. And Mr. Hunt has the vision to take our education system forwards and give it the funding it needs. His focus on eliminating illiteracy is key to the opportunity of future generations, and would be something our nation could be very proud of.

His vision for the economy is also brilliant. He can see the power of business, having started one himself, and understands the entrepreneurial ambitions of young people, and understands the effect businesses have across the economy and society. And linking in to education, I believe he has the vision to inspire many more young people leaving education to set up their own businesses, creating a large new generation of entrepreneurs.

Jeremy Hunt also has the vision and skills to make Britain stand taller in the world than it has for generations. As Foreign Secretary, he has done a BRILLIANT job representing us internationally, and could do even more in the role of PM. He can see how we can utilise both Hard and Soft Power to wield massive international influence. The focus he’s put on our Diplomatic network, for example by wanting to employ new diplomats from outside the civil service to gain new skills into the FCO, shows how the Diplomatic Service can spread influence across the globe.
And his plans for Defence spending is something I am very pleased about, and something that's much needed. To maintain current capabilities, it is vital for the MOD to get more spending, and Hunt has the vision to achieve this. As the son of an Admiral, it is clear the military is something close to his heart. And he can clearly see its importance - not just the obvious importance of it defending our nation and our allies, but the importance of it as a sign of our power and influence, the importance of it and the skills within it to help train other nations, and its place as a diplomatic tool.

Jeremy Hunt can promote our nation across the Globe, creating a glorious new age of British influence

It’s an obvious fact that Mr. Johnson is a divisive figure, and what our country needs now is unity. Unity amongst remainers and leavers, unity amongst people of different levels of wealth, and unity amongst our four great nations (and seventeen great dependencies and territories). And when you have a Labour party that is inevitably about to declare its disrespect and disregard for the 17.4 million who voted to leave, a Labour Party that is hell bent on vilifying those with wealth and wants to set different parts of our society up against each other, and a Labour leadership that wants to rip Northern Ireland out of the Union, would likely be happy to give Nicola Sturgeon a second referendum, and would be more than willing to trade away the Falkland Islands, the Conservative Party HAS to be the party of unity. And Jeremy Hunt is the candidate to unite our Country, and lead us into the future. As his slogan perfectly says, not only does our Party have to ‘unite to win’ the next General Election, but our Country has to ‘unite to win’. To win internationally, with strong hard power accompanied by strong soft power, to win for the less fortunate in our society by giving them the education they need, the funding public services need, and the tax reductions they need,  to win for businesses of all shapes and sizes by again cutting taxes for them so that they can thrive themselves, but also help the wider economy and society thrive too. And to win for every person living in the UK, with a strong economy, strong public services, and a strong international reputation, so that every citizen, across society and across our nations, can be proud to be British.
